Hartford man killed in motorcycle accident in neighboring Dodge County

Oct. 6, 2017 – Dodge Co., WI – A Hartford man was killed in a horrible accident this week in neighboring Dodge County.

The Dodge County Sheriff said the fatal traffic crash occurred on (County Highway) CTH P, just north of O’Neill Road in the Township of Ashippun about 7:25 p.m. on Oct. 4.

A northbound motorcycle struck a deer in the roadway and the occupant of the cycle, Richard Behling, 52 or rural Hartford, was ejected and came to rest in the traffic lane.  The cycle came to rest in the ditch.

Following that crash, a secondary and tertiary crash occurred.  Another northbound passenger car driven by Susan Pretzel, 56 from the Town of Ashippun, struck the motorcycle operator, and shortly after a northbound dump truck also struck the operator of the cycle. The operator of the cycle was pronounced dead at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.

The operator of the dump truck was Harvey Buchholz, 48, of Iron Ridge.  There were no other occupants in the dump truck.

 

The crash is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and its Crash Investigation Team (CIT).  The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Town of Oconomowoc Police Department, DCERT, the Sheriff’s Office Chaplain, Ashippun First Responders and Fire Department, and Stone Bank EMS.
