Hartford Youth Suicide Prevention Event | By Samantha Sali

Nov. 30, 2018 – Hartford, WI – Hartford Union High School (HUHS) and Parent Information Network is hosting a Youth Suicide Prevention presentation on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018.

The Parent Information Network (PIN), run by school district representatives, schedules events such as this one, based on what parents are asking for and trends that are occurring with local youth.

The Washington County Youth Risk Behavior Study found 67.3 percent of the students polled said their mental health was not good on one or more days in the past 30 days,” said HUHS Communications Coordinator, Teri Kermendy.

The event, which is open to the public, will be bringing in mental health speaker, Josh Rivedal, to speak on suicide prevention, mental health, anti-bullying, and diversity.

“These are all topics that need to be addressed with our youth,” said Kermendy. “We recommend adults, parents, community members, middle and high school aged children should attend. It’s free and we will have local mental health resources on hand before and after the presentation. Holiday’s are especially hard on people who are lonely and with mental health issues, we want to provide help right in the middle of when its needed.”

The event is from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and is located in the HUHS cafeteria.
