Homeowner confronts, bitten by, burglar | By Washington County Sheriff

July 18, 2019 – Town of Erin, WI – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress on July 17 at 5:13 p.m. at a residence on E. Waterford Road, Town of Erin. The 65-year-old female homeowner was home alone when she heard her dogs bark. She witnessed a women standing outside her door.

The woman, later identified as a 27-year-old Milwaukee resident, asked for directions and left.The alert homeowner immediately noticed she was missing credit cards, cash and her vehicle keys out of her purse located inside her residence. The homeowner obtained a second set of keys and immediately began to search the area for the suspect. Shortly thereafter, she was able to locate the suspect on foot in the area of E. Waterford and Robbee Court, Town of Erin.
The victim confronted the suspect and a struggle ensued. The homeowner was bitten, but not before she was able to get take the suspect’s wallet. The suspect then fled on foot again.
A second caller reported seeing the suspect running through the backyard of a home in the 2600 block of CTH K where a Washington County Deputy Sheriff took her into custody. A subsequent search of her person revealed property belonging to the homeowner. A search of the suspect’s wallet revealed drugs and paraphernalia.
The suspect was transported by Hartford Rescue due to drug withdrawal symptoms. Once at the hospital the suspect spit on a nurse and grabbed the fingers of another nurse to the point she felt her fingers were about to break.
When asked about the incident, Sheriff Martin Schulteis said, “Although it is inherently dangerous to confront a felon, I am incredibly proud of a community that will not tolerate victimization. This includes the homeowner and the second caller. I am grateful the homeowner was not seriously hurt, and I also sincerely thank the second caller for helping locate the suspect who apparently thought Washington County residents are easy targets.”
Schulteis said, “I also want to thank the medical providers who oftentimes put themselves in harm’s way just to help the very person that harms them. We will hold people like that accountable.”
The woman is currently in custody at the Washington County Jail and facing numerous charges including Burglary, Battery, Possession of Fentanyl, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Battery to Emergency Medical Care Provider and Discharging Bodily Fluid at a Public Safety Worker.
