Letter to the Editor | Mary and Monte will revitalize West Bend schools | By Faith and Mike Watson

March 22, 2018 – West Bend, WI – Conservative candidates, Mary Weigand and Monte Schmiege, have more than earned our votes for West Bend School Board. We ask all school district residents to also vote for them.
Mary and Monte both want to revitalize public education in the West Bend School District. They have seen the declining academic performance that Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English and math have inflicted on our students. Both want to keep CCSS from spreading to other subject areas.
Both Monte and Mary have worked hard to improve our curriculum. Mary has served two times on the district’s human growth and development committee. Now she is on the Citizens’ Facilities Advisory Committee. Mary also put her own children through our schools. As a mother, nurse, and community volunteer, she cares deeply about the well-being of others, especially our public school students. This is exactly the type of person we need on the board.
Monte has worked tirelessly to improve the curriculum in our district for the last three years he has served on the board. On those occasions when the board wanted to do things that were not in the best interests of all stakeholders, Monte has taken a principled stand and voted against the majority. For independent oversight and genuine integrity, we sincerely commend him.
Monte improved the curriculum by writing and helping ensure passage of policies that require greater Board involvement in and oversight of specific curriculum guides. He has consistently taken the time and effort to research and put into place requirements that improve the rigor and quality of our students’ education.
Mary and Monte are fair, honest, transparent, and hard-working. Both have solid conservative family values. For all these reasons and many more, please vote for Mary and Monte now or on April 3. Thank you.
Faith and Mike Watson
