July 23, 2017 – Washington Co., WI – On July 19 at approximately 2:18 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office that their Deputy was in pursuit of a vehicle on Hwy 175 in the Washington County township of Addison. The vehicle was traveling southbound at 100 mph. The pursuit was subsequently terminated by Dodge County. Minutes later, a Washington County Deputy Sheriff Sergeant observed the vehicle southbound at a high rate of speed on Hwy 83 just north of Hartford. Upon turning around, the vehicle could not be seen.
Several more minutes later, another Deputy observed the vehicle eastbound on Hwy 60 near Kettle Moraine Road at 90 mph. Knowing that Village of Slinger squads and another Deputy were further east of the vehicle, the Deputy began pursuing. Moments later, a Slinger PD officer was able to deploy a spike strip into the path of the vehicle damaging its tires.
The operator continued driving at 75 mph eastbound, through the red light at Hwy 175 and eventually attempted to turn into the Aurora Clinic property. Once the vehicle slowed substantially, the operator attempted to flee from the vehicle but slipped and fell in the wet grass. He was taken into custody at that time.
Drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle, and a loaded rifle in the trunk. The suspect, Jesus Rangel, 32, from Milwaukee was charged in Washington County Circuit Court with Felony Fleeing, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is currently in the Washington County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond, and a Department of Corrections parole hold. Rangel is currently on parole, after serving time in prison for a sexual assault.
Sheriff Schmidt’s Comment: “Mr. Rangel has a long criminal history and continues to show no regard for the law. I want to commend the Deputies and Officers who acted with due regard for the safety of the public while still managing to secure an arrest of this dangerous person. Fleeing at excessive speeds while on parole demonstrates Mr. Rangel is not yet ready to live among law abiding people. I encourage DOC-Community Supervision agents to file for revocation of Mr. Rangel’s parole, and that if his new charges result in a conviction, he receive additional prison time.”
