Obit: Elroy L. Maechtle, 97, Port Washington

Elroy L. Maechtle age 97, of Port Washington passed away at his home on Sunday, September 11, 2016. Elroy was born on the family farm in the Town of Saukville on September 13, 1918 to Walter and Lenora (nee Reinke) Maechtle. On November 10, 1945 he was united in marriage to Virginia (nee Dickmann) in Saukville. Together the couple ran a dairy farm just north of Port Washington for over 40 years. Elroy was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1945 and was a WWII veteran who served in the European Theatre. Elroy was a Charter Member and past Post Commander of American Legion Post Landt-Thiel # 470. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and spending time in Crivitz.

Elroy is survived by his five children: Gary (Amy) Maechtle of Crivitz, Paulette Fletcher of Ankeny, IA, Wendy Maechtle of Port Washington, Bruce (Christine) Maechtle of Port Washington and Lisa (Michael) Crivello of Port Washington. He is further survived by daughter-in-law Barb Engel of West Bend, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, brother Lester Maechtle of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia, son Richard Maechtle, daughter-in-law Annette Maechtle, son-in-law Donald Fletcher and sister Dorothy Schultz.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 16 at 6:00 PM at Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington. Pastor Don Drollinger will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:30 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM. Interment will be held on Saturday, September 17th at 10:00 AM at Union Cemetery in Port Washington with full military honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association https://donatenow.heart.org/ or American Cancer Society https://donate.cancer.org/index.
