Obit: Madelyn “Madee” Roell (nee Spaeth), 67, of West Bend

Nov. 13, 2017 – West Bend, WI – Madelyn “Madee” Roell (nee Spaeth), 67, of West Bend, passed away on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at the Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.

She was born on March 22, 1950 to the late Eugene and Catherine Spaeth in West Bend.

Madee attended Holy Angels grade school in West Bend through eighth grade and was a lifelong member of the parish.  At the West Bend High School, she was a member of various clubs, and was a pom pom girl, cheering for many football and basketball games.

After high school, she went to work in the office at the Gehl Company.  There she worked with a few of her lifelong friends.

In 1973, she married Dave Roell after meeting him at Don’s Retreat in West Bend.  She began her 35 year crossing guard career working for the City of West Bend Police Department after her kids were in school.

Madee’s pride and joy were her three grandsons.  She enjoyed watching their sporting events and could be heard cheering from the bleachers.   Madee also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cottage, then house, on Washington Lake in Cecil.  From pontoon rides to watching eagles, Madee was truly at peace during the time she spent in the north woods.

She was an avid baker and cook, specializing in desserts like cherry berries on a cloud, ting a lings, and chocolate covered peanut butter balls.  Most of all, Madee was a devoted wife and mom, who always put others before herself.

Those Madee leaves behind to cherish her memory include her husband, Dave; two children, Lance (Jenny) Roell of West Bend and Missy (Mike) Pfeifer of Wauwatosa; three grandchildren, Evan, Mason, and Cullen Roell all of West Bend; two sisters, Kathy (Len) Backus of Oshkosh and Barb (Bill) Byrne of Madison; two brothers, Gene (Lori) Spaeth of West Bend and John (Cheryle) Spaeth of Palm Harbor, Florida; and many other brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 17 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Myrhum Patten Miller & Kietzer Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St. West Bend, WI 53095).  Inurnment of Madee’s cremated remains will be in Washington County Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank Dr. Burfeind and the Oncology Team at the Kraemer Cancer Center, as well as the staff at Kathy Hospice for the compassionate care that was provided.
