Roadwork on US 41 southbound causing extended delays

If you haven’t found this fun in the morning yet you can count yourself one of the lucky ones.

The lane closure of of US 41 southbound from US 45 to STH 145 will run through Sept. 30 for culvert work. The DOT has posted alternate routes but as Michelle Lofy wrote at 8:03 a.m., it isn’t much better.

“Wondering if you would be so kind as to remind the people you told to get off on Highway 60 and take Highway 164 to Highway 167, that a two lane highway is still a quicker alternate than a one lane road,” Lofy said.

“The back ups this week have been ridiculous from Pleasant Hill Road all the way to Highway 167.”

Brian DeNeve, spokesman with the DOT, said they encourage people to use the official alternate routes.

“One of the problems is there are four-way stops and that leads to some congestion,” he said. “We are working with law enforcement and the project team is looking at it now.”

Suggestions of a temporary signal were downplayed because of the short-term extent of the project. “I’m sure it doesn’t feel short term when you’re in the car in the morning but we’ll look at some flagging,” he said.

Staying on US 41 is an option, DeNeve said “no matter what, there are going to be delays.”

Washington County Sheriff’s Department said they were aware of the delays and encouraged motorists to drive with caution.
