West Bend Police called to Badger Middle School on Thursday, Nov. 7 for lockdown

November 8, 2019 – West Bend, WI – West Bend Police were called to Badger Middle School in West Bend on Thursday.

Parents received a note about a school lockdown. It said the lockdown lasted “no more than 40 minutes.”

Superintendent Don Kirkegaard said the incident involved a student. He said there were no weapons and no children were injured.

Calls have been placed to Principal Dave Uelmen.

West Bend Police and the West Bend Fire Department were also called to the scene.  Calls have been placed to WBPD and WBFD.

Parents in the school district received this note below on Thursday, Nov. 7.

Good afternoon,

As you know, student safety is always a priority within the West Bend School District and Badger. The purpose of this communication is to inform you that two incidents that occurred simultaneously which prompted us to implement our Safety Plan. First and foremost, all students are safe. As part of our safety procedures, we entered into a lock down today at the end of 7th hour and it lasted through start of 8th hour. The lock down lasted no more than 40 minutes.

For the safety of all involved, the West Bend Police Department and West Bend Fire and Rescue did support us in addressing the reason for the lockdown. I am so proud of the response of staff  and students for implementing our lockdown procedures in a calm fashion. Student learning went on with minimal disruption.

Please know, student safety and privacy is always a top priority for us at Badger. Thank you for your support in processing the situation with your child at home.

Parents also received a note today, Friday, November 8.

The lockdown was implemented so that students remained in their classrooms instead of transitioning from 7th to 8th period while two different situations were occurring.  This is the detail I can share while maintaining privacy for students involved.
