August 19, 2026 – West Bend, WI – Hundreds of orange and black butterflies took wing Tuesday afternoon as the residents at Cedar Community and their guests participated in the annual butterfly release.
Residents of Cedar Ridge patiently waited for a storm system to pass and then headed outdoors to gently unfolded a tiny cardboard triangle that housed the delicate butterfly.
One by one the butterflies slowly aired out their wings before taking flight – much to the delight of their temporary owners.
The event was topped off with a meal donated by Laurie and Troy A. Wetterau with music by Downtown Harrison.
The annual butterfly release is designed to celebrate life and remember those who have passed.
