Obituary | Herman John Berndt “Hermie”, 97, of West Bend, Wi

January 19, 2026West Bend, Wi – Herman John Berndt “Hermie”, 97, passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2026, with his family by his side.

Herman was born on December 9, 1928 in Newburg to the late Charles and Anna Berndt (nee Becker). He served his country in the United States Army.

Herman was united in marriage to Janis Kuehl on October 4, 1952 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend, WI. He owned a mechanic shop called Berndt’s Service.

Herman’s hobbies included golfing, bowling, and fishing, along with vacationing and living in Florida during Winter. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Those left to cherish Herman’s memory include his wife, Janis; children, Joan Marie Stoffel , Diane Catherine (David) McLaughlin, and David Allen Berndt; grandchildren, Rebecca (John) Van Beek, Jacob (Sara Cole) Stoffel, Owen (Meg) Stoffel, and Taylor Berndt; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Van Beek, Zachary Van Beek (Courtney), Eli Van Beek, Jackson and Cole Stoffel; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Herman is preceded in death by his grandchildren, Isaiah Van Beek and Jason Paul Berndt; sisters, Margaret and Marion; brothers, Carl, John, Francis “Robert”, and Marvin Berndt; son-in-law, Zachary Stoffel.

SERVICES DETAILS: A Celebration of Life for Herman will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., at Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service (1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend). A Memorial Burial for Herman with Military Honors will be held at Washington County Memorial Park at later date.

The family would like to thank everyone at Ivy Manor in West Bend for the dedicated and professional care they took of Herman. The owners and workers were like a second family to him.
