This season he secured the most points to win the 500m ISU World Cup as he took first place in Calgary, Heerenveen, and Hamar. During the last ISU World Cup in Inzell, Stolz finished with a bronze in both 500m races, as Polands Damian Zurek was on fire finishing with two track records including a 34.09 only to better that with a 34.06. Stolz has a strong finish, but he will have to get out of the blocks faster than Jun-Ho Kim of Korea who clocks a 100m at 9.51 while Stolz is at 9.58.
Competition: The 500m competition will be fierce from Zurek, Kim, Marek Kania of Poland, and Jenning De Boo of the Netherlands. Also watch for Zach Stoppelmoor of the USA to race the 500m.

Saturday, February 21, 2026 – Stolz will skate the Mass Start. The semifinals begin at 8 a.m. with the final on tap at 9:40 a.m.
Analysis: Mass Start is different from all the other competitions as this is pack-style racing. Rather than 2 people on the ice, there can be about 20. There’s josteling, and speed, and strategy over 16 laps. Below is a candid video with coach Bob Corby on what Stolz is going to have to do in the Mass Start if he hopes to win.
Competition: This is the last race of the Olympics for Stolz so watch for him to go all out. The biggest competitor will be Czech skater Metoděj Jílek and veteran Jorrit Bergsma, 40, of the Netherlands who won 2 Mass Starts during the ISU World Cup season. Bergsma finished with a personal best of 7:24.963 in Heerenveen, NED. During the last competition in Inzell, 19-year-old Czech skater Metoděj Jílek took first place (7:41.194). Stolz has a sprinters kick in the final laps. He took first in the Mass Start in Hamar, Norway with a time of 7:40.180. Stolz started with season with a bronze in the Mass Start in Calgary. As coach Corby predicted, this is going to be a fast 16-lap race.

On a side note: While the list of start times and racers has yet to be released, there is a chance Stolz may skate in the Team Pursuit. He has been listed as an alternate in the 3-man race. Currently the USA team includes Casey Dawson, Emery Lehman, and Ethan Cepuran. That threesome is already a heavy gold-medal favorite. Team Pursuit is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17 starting at 7:30 a.m. in the Midwest.
