Vehicle hits home in Town of Auburn | By Sgt. Brett Handschke

September 6, 2026 – Fond du Lac Co., Wi – On September 5, 2026, at approximately 8:44 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Communication Center received a call regarding a crash involving a vehicle and a house near the intersection of HWY 45 and HWY 67 in the Township of Auburn. The caller advised they did not witness the crash and only heard it.

A Deputy from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and observed the vehicle and residence to be unoccupied.

Efforts to locate the driver of the vehicle were attempted using a K9 and a drone but were unsuccessful.

Preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was northbound on HWY 67 and failed to negotiate a curve, went left of center, and failed to stop at the stop sign at HWY 45. The vehicle crossed over HWY 45 and struck the residence adjacent to HWY 45. It appears speed and inattentive driving were factors in the crash.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office also spoke to relatives of the presumed driver in an effort to locate the driver but were unsuccessful.

The homeowners arrived on scene during the investigation and confirmed no one was inside the residence at the time of the crash. The homeowners estimate the damage to the home to be approximately $15,000. A family pet was inside the residence and suffered minor injuries.

Law enforcement believes they know who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash and will conduct further follow-up regarding the incident.

This incident is actively under investigation, and at this time, no further information will be released.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Campbellsport Police Department, Kewaskum Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Campbellsport Fire/EMS.
