Town of Wayne, Wi – A little 8-year-old girl from the Town of Wayne has a pumpkin on display at Schmidt Century Farm worth crowing about.
Charlotte Christenson is a member of the 4-H Wayne Crusaders. She started growing the pumpkin inside, in early May, and later transferred it to the garden.
“The secret to raising a large pumpkin, starts with a special seed,” said Charlotte, who stands about 4-foot-2 and can not, not, not lift her pumpkin. Nobody can.

“My uncle Jason has a pumpkin party and I had about two months to grow it. My dad helped me but I watered it, added fertilizer, and used one of my own bed sheets to cover it so it wouldn’t get too hot and crack, like my dad’s did.”
Charlotte’s dad said after planting outdoors a long vine grows with flowers and it’s best to pick the flower furthest down the main vine. The pedals are ripped off a male flower and that is used to pollinate a female flower, after that they tend to grow pretty fast, putting on 10 to 15 pounds a day.
Charlotte currently holds the title, in the Christenson family, as being the youngest child ever to grow a massive pumpkin weighing more than 300 pounds.

Charlotte’s giant pumpkin is on display at Schmidt Century Farm, 5485 St. Anthony Road, in West Bend, Wi.
