Would you consider attending ‘A Night at Shalom Wildlife?’

Town of Farmington, Wi – Legal costs are mounting for the locally owned Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary as it fights to retain its business, owner David Fechter is floating an idea about a nighttime gathering. Would you attend?

The issue with Shalom came to light as new neighbors are fighting the Town of Farmington and a proposed conditional use permit for expansion of the zoo.

Fechter’s correspondence is below.

Many first times that happened tonight.

While making one of my on foot night patrols I always walk past Gingers area.

When I got there, I had a first. To my surprise Ginger and all four cubs were out in the holding area instead of snuggling together in the den. Their little faces in the moon light had a worried look to them. Maybe it was the moon.

Ginger and I met at the fence. We greeted each other with chuffs and then a sniff to the back of my hand. Our chuffing calmed those sweet little faces.

The sniff was not liked by Ginger at all. That never happened before. I thought this is strange. I then thought maybe if I open the door and come inside the den, whatever is bothering her will calm her spirit down if she follows.

At first it worked. She came in and laid down, but never like this. Her body was tight against the front edge of the cage on my side. I felt like a cub waiting for her to flip over so I can access a nipple. That was a really unusual. Her behavior was off normal tonight.

Watching Love bugs face in the den doorway and the concern on her face took my focus off of Ginger. Then out of the darkness came Khona the teddy bear. Teddy bear and Love bug knew about why mom was upset. They just didn’t know what to do.

Khona came by mom to comfort her. That is what teddy bears do. She thanked him with a kiss and away he went.

Tigerlee came in and went right to mom. He knew exactly what mom was upset about, she must have told him earlier. He told her he would help and wanted to get going but mom just wanted to love him up. Tried getting away but then he liked it.

Tigerlee is the smartest of the cubs. Nina was the smartest of the cubs in her litter too. White tigers appear to be the most advanced of the different shades of tigers.

I guess the diehard Shalom haters are right. With all that inbreeding of captive white tigers there IS a side affect. It’s called intelligence and unsurpassed heavenly beauty that was given to the first white tiger by the Creator in the beginning.

At this time I believe only the white tigers are able to tiger speak to humans. A gift to us through them from the Creator. A opening of your heart and mind to hear.

No wonder the white bison is sacred to Native Americans, so is the polar bear to the Eskimo in the arctic, the ghost bears by the indigenous Peoples in Canada, the white lion by bush tribesmen in Africa, and the white tiger by the aboriginal tribes in Asia.

Just like that Tigerlee now I go he tried to get through the den fence. He was trying to get to me in a scary way for a little guy. Another first from any of them.

As Ginger left the den and called the other cubs from the entrance, It looked like she wanted the cubs away and did want them to see what Tigerlee was learning.

Ginger was out of the den, Tigerlee needed to learn how to tiger speak to me. He tried his hardest. When Mom came back in, she praised him and told him she loved him, and then she showed him how to do it. That is when I got it the message.

The message is danger. I never have received that speak before.

After Ginger reassured Tigerlee that I understood the message she exited the den.
Proudly knowing that he just shared the message, the feeling of danger lurking was set free from his spirit. He then cheerfully joined the family who are sleeping outdoors to night.

Humans always struggle with each other over who owns nature. When that happens on a global scale that is when we have danger. Loving nature is loving God. It’s worth the danger.

Shalom everyone. Be alert and stay safe.

Wisconsin’s Wildest Zoo is a peak zoo/sanctuary experience at night. If we offered a night at the zoo would you come?

  1. I would attend a night at Shalom. It brings tears to my eyes when I hear what you are going threw. My family started coming when Shalom was only the deer preserve. We loved it so much that we brought groups from our small private school that my children were going to. The Rut wagon night ride was a favorite. I never got to do the Indian lore ride.
Prayers are in that all will go positive🙏

  2. Yes! I would come to a night tour . Iam hoping and praying that nothing happens to this wonderful place! A loving and protection of animals they need our help ! And you are helping to keep a species alive that’s good for everyone!

  4. Absolutely! Been going here for 30 years, every time it was a school field trip I made sure to be a chaperone, always amazing watching the kids faces. In July we took my granddaughter there for her 3rd birthday, we had so much fun ! I got the little albino deer to come to the fence, it was licking her little fingers, so was amazed and giggling so hard it touched my heart, that’s what it’s all about FAMILY, SERENITY & MEMORIES!
