1 man in custody following attempted armed robbery in West Bend, Wi | By Washington Co. Sheriff

August 28, 2025 – West Bend, WI – On August 28, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m. the West Bend Police Department responded to an attempted armed robbery at a gas station

near W. Washington Street and 18th Avenue in the City of West Bend. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect who was reported to have fled the scene on a bicycle.

All Washington County law enforcement agencies are on the same radio system, and a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy was in the area and heard the initial dispatch.

 

The deputy observed an individual matching the description near W. Washington Street and US Highway 45 at 2:06 a.m. When the deputy attempted to make contact, the suspect abandoned his bicycle and fled on foot.

The suspect then jumped a fence at a property near W. Washington St and University. Unbeknownst to him, there was a 20-foot drop on the other side. The suspect fell, suffering a broken femur.

The deputy quickly took the suspect into custody and provided medical aid until rescue personnel arrived. The suspect was identified as a 20-year-old Milwaukee man.

 

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The West Bend Police Department is handling the criminal charges related to the armed robbery investigation, while the Sheriff’s Office issued an additional charge for resisting.

Sheriff Martin Schulteis praised the teamwork involved in the apprehension:

“Our mission is to protect and serve this community regardless of municipal boundaries. This case demonstrates the seamless way our deputies work alongside the West Bend Police Department and other law enforcement partners to keep our residents safe. I’m proud of the quick actions taken to ensure this dangerous suspect was taken into custody.”

The investigation remains ongoing with the West Bend Police Department as the lead agency.
