July 3, 2025 – Hartford, Wi – At approximately 5:45 a.m. on July 3, 2025, Hartford Fire & Rescue responded to a business in the Dodge Industrial Park on Innovation Way for a fire in a building. Washington County Sheriff’s Office dispatch advised there were reports of several injured people after what was reported as an explosion. The first arriving command vehicle along with Hartford police officers arrived on scene at Signicast with smoke showing from the roof and an open overhead door, and multiple employees standing outside.

Three Hartford Ambulances were utilized to quickly treat and transport two seriously injured people, and triage the remaining employees outside. The first arriving engine crew and ladder truck crew began to extinguish the fire inside of the building. Further mutual aid was requested utilizing the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), both to assist with the fire and to obtain additional ambulances should more patients be located needing care.
Initial Hartford fire crews worked quickly to extinguish fires in multiple locations inside of the building. Special tactics were required to extinguish some of the fire due to molten metal being involved, which would react violently if traditional fire extinguishment tactics of using water from hose lines were to be utilized.
EMS completed care of a total of five patients, with three of them being transported to hospitals. Flight for Life was requested to meet at AMC-Hartford Hospital for the most critical patient. EMS also provided rehabilitation efforts to the firefighters, which was especially important to keep the working firefighters healthy due to the high outdoor temperature. No fire or EMS personnel were injured during this incident.
Due to the efforts of all those on scene, the impacted area was isolated to one area of the building.
Assistance was provided by: Hartford Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch, and Flight for Life. Mutual aid assistance was provided through MABAS by: St Lawrence Fire Company, Lifestar Ambulance, Slinger Fire Department, Richfield Fire Department, Jackson Fire Department, and Neosho Fire Department.
Hartford Fire and Rescue also responded to two other 911 incidents during this same time frame.
All other departments were released from the scene and returned to their stations at approximately 9 a.m. The State Fire Marshall’s office was requested to assist in the investigation due to the nature of the incident and injuries involved. OSHA was also on scene to conduct its own investigation. The cause of the incident is under investigation as of the time of this release.
