Day 2 – Jordan Stolz finishes 2nd to Jenning De Boo in 500m Sprint Championships

March 6, 2026 – Heerenveen, NL – For the second time in as many days, Jordan Stolz finished behind Dutch sensation Jenning De Boo in the 500m at the Sprint Championships. The finish, pending the results of the 1000m, pretty much secures the Sprint title for De Boo.

While Stolz was out of the blocks and to the 100m ahead of De Boo, the Dutchman had the kick in the final straightaway and crossed the finish in 33.93 ahead of Stolz at 34.17.

Those times were slower than Day 1 competition, for both skaters as De Boo set a new track record on Thursday with a 33.78 and Stolz scored a silver finish with 34.13.

The Sprint Championships is based on a points standing and with 3 races completed, De Boo leads with 100.970 points; Stolz is a close second at 101.870.

 

Coming up in the 1000m the pairings have been set. Stolz will skate 12th vs. Joep Wennemars of the Netherlands. The 13th pairing features Canadian Laurent Dubreuil vs. Jenning De Boo.

While Stolz was aiming for a rare double at the Allround & Sprint World Championships, he will have to see how he fares in the Allrounds. Competition resumes Saturday with the 500m and the 5000m and Sunday the 1500m and 10,000m.

March 6, 2026Heerenveen, NL – It’s a new day at the Thailf in Heerenveen and round two of the Sprint Championships is underway. Jordan Stolz enters the day in second place behind Dutch skater Jenning De Boo.

According to ISU-skating, “The American had come to Heerenveen with the ambition of taking the World Sprint and the World Allround titles. That first goal is in jeopardy after the first day of the Sprint tournament.”

During the post-race interviews Stolz said, “I wanted this Sprint World title, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be [that way] so far.

“I just have to take it one at the time and see what I can get done.” 

De Boo stands atop the leaderboard at 67.040 and Stolz is at 67.700.

De Boo took first in the 500m and 1000m on Thursday and Stolz took second in both races.

The two are paired against each other in the final race of the 500m today. The pairings for the 1000m have yet to be announced but it’s certain the two will not be paired with each other in that race.

The men’s ISU World Sprint Championships conclude Friday with the second 500m at noon Central Time followed by the final event, the second 1000m.
