December 22, 2025 – Hartford, WI – At approximately 5:01 p.m. on December 21, 2025, Hartford Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a smell of smoke in a house on Stonecrop Drive.

A 911 caller reported there was a smell of smoke in the unit next door, and no one answered the door when they tried knocking.
The first arriving fire engine, which was at a previous motor vehicle crash at Hwy 60 & Hwy K, found a side-by-side unit with a light haze of smoke inside the building and activating smoke detectors.
The neighbor was unaware if anyone else was inside the building. The first arriving engine crew deployed a hoseline into the building. The next arriving engine deployed a second hoseline to prepare should the fire grow.
The fire was quickly extinguished and the unit was overhauled to ensure no other fire remained.
EMS crews provided rehabilitation efforts to the firefighters as well as staffing an ambulance on scene.
No fire or EMS personnel were injured during this incident, but a dog was located in the house which was treated by EMS crews on scene. The dog was ultimately transported to an emergency veterinary clinic by the homeowners after they arrived on scene.
The fire originated in the kitchen of the house, but the occupants were not home at the time of the fire. An active fire investigation is still underway at the time of this release to determine the cause of the fire.
Assistance was provided by Washington County Sheriff’s Office with dispatch services and Hartford Police Department with law enforcement assistance. Mutual Aid assistance was provided by St Lawrence Fire Company and Slinger Fire Department, and Lifestar Ambulance which provided an EMS unit at change of quarters to cover Hartford’s service area while at the fire.
Hartford Electric Utility and WE Energies gas also assured there were no power supply concerns.
