Hartford, WI — Hartford Union High School (HUHS) is proud to announce senior Hailey Tomes has been named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, placing her among the top academic achievers nationwide.

The National Merit Scholarship Program honors the highest-scoring students in the nation on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors earn the distinction of semifinalist each year. Tomes outstanding performance has now placed her in the running for the title of National Merit Finalist and the opportunity to compete for prestigious scholarship awards.
“Hailey is an exceptional student whose dedication and determination exemplify what it means to be an Oriole,” said Ms. Kelly Lam, Principal of Hartford Union High School.
“We are incredibly proud of her achievements and excited to see the opportunities that lie ahead for her.”
Tomes other accomplishments:
- Working on her second year with National Honors Society
- Very active member of the Best Buddies Organization & 4H
- Sources of Strength Leader
- Took 1st place in the Trig-Star Competition in April 2025.
- Long-term goal is to work in the field of oncology
Tomes will now continue in the competition for National Merit Finalist standing, with results announced in February 2026.
