November 22, 2025 – Calgary, CA -Speedskater Jordan Stolz, 21, is officially bound for the 2026 Winter Olympics after a thrilling gold-medal finish in the 1000m on Friday, Day 1 of the ISU World Cup in Calgary.
“Yeah, I am really happy,” Stolz said when first addressing the media. Questioned how the race unfolded, he said, “It was good. I was tired in the last lap, but I was still able to beat him.”

That “him” was silver medalist Jenning De Boo. Stolz finished in 1:06 flat while De Boo was right on his heels at 1:06,11.
“It’s just his last lap,” said De Boo. “He can just keep on going and my legs quit on me. So yeah, a bit of a shame. I thought I had him, but he was better than me today.”

Stolz said he felt sharper in Calgary than he did at the previous World Cup stop in Salt Lake City. “I feel a bit more snappy, but the opener wasn’t too much faster. I feel better. I just need probably another couple races to get in better shape.”

The matchup against Dutch rival De Boo delivered the tight duel fans expected. De Boo had the early advantage through the opening splits, which Stolz said he could sense.
“Yeah, I could feel it. I mean, I was getting all my power into the ice. I knew that in the last lap a lot could happen. The last 50 meters I was able to edge him out. So it was good. I was happy with it.”
Stolz admitted the second lap felt heavier than usual. “A little bit more tired in the second lap than usual, but I think it was just from racing last weekend and then sitting around and then racing again.”

Conditions added another challenge. “It was very brittle,” Stolz said of the Calgary ice. “Like how it usually would be for here.”

Coach Bob Corby praised both athletes but made clear Stolz’s finish was no accident.
“Jordan is not waiting to pour it on at the end. He’s not doing that at all. You can’t do that in this sport. You have to go hard. He was only a few hundredths behind him at 200, so it’s not that big of a deal.”
An article in USA Today was first to confirm Stolz secured a spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics. With races on tap this weekend, Stolz still needs to finish in the top tier in the 500m and 1500m to secure Olympic spots there as well.
Stolz has two races on tap Saturday with the 500m at 12:58 p.m. and the 1500m at 2:17 p.m.
Sunday, he races the second 500m at 2:34 p.m. followed by the mass start at 3:38 p.m.
Below is an article following the ISU World Cup in January 2025.
January 26, 2025 – Calgary, CA – It is an amazing thing to watch as USA speed skater Jordan Stolz continues his run of gold-medal victories during the ISU World Cup series. On Saturday, Stolz notched his 18th straight win and set another track record in the 1000m at the Olympic Oval in Calgary with a time of 1:05,37.
In the post-race press conference Stolz said the 1000m was the toughest race of this World Cup. He said Jenning De Boo had one of the fastest first laps on record.

“I thought I’d be able to have enough on the second lap to stay with his time or beat it, which is what I was able to do,” said Stolz. “I’m pretty confident in my endurance.”
During a morning warmup Stolz hit a spot on the ice and lost his balance and ended up falling and skidding to a crash into the wall. He said he wasn’t hurt and managed to quickly bounce back. “I just managed to put my blade into a rut and there was nothing I could do about that,” he said. “I just went and checked my skates, sharpened them… it was fine.”
Stolz has one race remaining as he skates the 500m on Sunday afternoon. “The early start doesn’t give me a lot of time to recover,” he said. “It is what it is… but I’ll start warming up around 11 a.m.”

On a side note – and don’t tell my mom: With each gold medal victory Jordan also receives a box of chocolates from event sponsor Chocolate Lab CA. We were chatting after the presser about what he’d be doing with all that candy and he said, “Do you want it?” I said I appreciate his kindness and would give it to my 91-year-old mother.
His parents have just got to be so proud.
January 25, 2025 – Calgary CA – Another day, another track record for USA speed skater Jordan Stolz. On Saturday afternoon at the ‘fastest ice in the world’ Stolz set a new track record, breaking his own record from a year ago in Calgary.
Stolz raced against Olympic gold medalist Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands. Nuis won gold in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
From the start the race had the bar set extremely high as Jenning De Bo, also from the Netherland, had just grabbed first place with a time of 1:06:05 which tied a track record set by Stolz in February 2024.

As the starting gun fired, Stolz got off to an impressive start clocking 16.01 in the first 200m. His second lap was 24.02 and that was dicey since De Bo had notched a 16.0 opener followed by a blazing 23.9 in his second lap.
The skaters all acknowledge Stolz has a final kick and that’s what clinched it for him as he raced down the straightway with a 24.6, edging De Bo whose last lap was a 26 and pushing both skaters from the Netherlands off the top of the podium.

Nuis finished with a bronze medal and a time of 1:06.73 while Stolz set a new track record at 1:05.90.

This will be a unique tour as I’m without a bicycle, but will make do on a great adventure.
Fatigued with preparation I fell into my normal nervous traveler routine.
At security I asked the woman if I had to take off my pants. First I thought I kept that in my head, then I watched her face and determined quickly one of us said it out loud.
She was dry and polite. “No thank you,” she said kindly. “Just your shoes and belt.” Good grief.
