In the first 500m, Stolz finished second to Damian Zurek of Poland who skated the race of a lifetime, notching a 34.09 gold-medal finish and a new track record.
Zurek had been dialing in his 500m performance since skating in Hamar when he lost to Stolz by 0.001s in December 2025.
Post race Stolz was quoted in isu-skating.com saying he was not too bothered to come in second behind Zurek.
“The 500m felt good. I’ve been training a lot of volume lately and it didn’t affect my top-end speed too much, although I still think I can improve a little,” Stolz said.
