January 17, 2025 – West Bend, Wi – One man was injured and his dog rescued following a house fire at 10th and Chestnut in West Bend, WI.
According to Battalion Chief Matt Benidt the fire call came in just before 3 p.m. Crews responded quickly and managed to knock the fire down within moments of arrival.
Benidt said the cause was a Christmas tree fire on the first floor. The man injured his hands while trying to pull the tree from the home. That man was taken to Froedtert and then airlifted to Milwaukee for burns to his hands.
The dog was found via thermal-imaging camera on the second floor. He was rescued and received oxygen and within a few minutes was quickly back on his feet.
Damage to the home was limited to the first floor, however Benidt said there was extensive smoke damage throughout the home.
Jackson and Kewaskum were also paged to the call.
