Recreating the sunflower pose – 5 years later with a surprise addition | Annual sunflower challenge

Washington Co., WI – It’s that time of year when sunflowers are in full glory. Time for Washington County to show off your sunflowers during the WashingtonCountyInsider.com Annual Sunflower Challenge.

One of the most special entries comes 5 years after the first submission in 2020. It’s from Casey Belger who was standing atop her horse Zoey, measuring the height of her sunflower. What Belger didn’t realize at the time… was that she was pregnant.  Now, five years later… check out her latest sunflower photo.

” I have a little girl and a little pony of my own now, so we had to replicate that photo. Long live cowgirls!” Pictured is Casey, June and Thunder from Boltonville.

Thank you, Casey Belger
Some other sunflower submissions are below.
Just look at the monster sunflower in Lisa Bennett’s yard in West Bend, Wi.  I measured them to be 10 feet 8 inches and 11 feet 6-inches tall.

Below are previous submissions….

Debby Roegner’s yard in the Town of West Bend, WI.

“I’m 5-foot 6 inches, so it gives you an idea how tall they are,” said Roegner.

Jeanne Goeden submitted her over 8-foot-tall sunflower growing next to her house in Kewaskum. Jeanne is 5-feet tall, and she used a yardstick to give perspective.

Denise Steffen, “Don’t have a tall one but I have a very, very cute one!”

In 2017 WashingtonCountyInsider.com issued a challenge to neighbors to show us your sunflower.

The Ward family put a little Wallenda into their photo …. and with junior up top he still wasn’t tall enough to reach the head of the sunflower.

Mr. climbed atop a pair of sawhorses and still wasn’t tall enough – looks like a 10 footer. Can anybody do better in this year’s WashingtonCountyInsider.com Sunflower Challenge.

Ah! Sunflower

William Blake, 1757 – 1827

Ah! sunflower, weary of time, Who countest the steps of the sun,

Seeking after that sweet golden clime Where the traveler’s journey is done;

Where the youth pined away with desire, And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,

Arise from their graves and aspire; Where my sunflower wishes to go.
