VIDEO | Jordan Stolz scores silver, gold, and a perfect 1500m ISU World Cup season

January 23, 2026 – Make it silver and gold and 5-for-5 in the 1500 meter this season for 21-year-old Jordan Stolz during the first day of the ISU World Cup in Inzell, Germany.

After securing a silver in the 500m with a time of  34.51. Stolz managed to pocket a gold in the 1500m which meant a sweep of five first-place 1500m finishes this season and a World Cup title.

During the race at the Max Aicher Arena in Inzell, Stolz skated in the ninth pairing against Sander Eitrem, 23, of Norway.  The announcer said it would be a “barnstormer” with “the ultimate pairing.”

At the gun Stolz took off with an opening 300m clocked in at 23.12. Only Dutch skater Kjeld Nuis was faster off the blocks at 23.05.

After that, each lap belonged to Stolz who finished in 1:41.95, almost two seconds faster than Eitrem’s 1:43.90 and within .20 of the track record, 1:41.78.

Finishing his fifth 1500m of the season, Stolz earned a perfect 300 points for the Season: 2025 ~ 2026.

Now to see if Stolz can pull off a hattrick similar to last season when he also won the 500m and 1000m trophies.

As of Friday, Stolz has won the 500m trophy for the 2025-2026 season, even with one more 500m on tap Sunday.

Looking at the stats, Stolz was atop the season points totals in the 1000m as well.  The announcers praised Stolz for his “consistency – race after race after race after race.”

In the 500m, Stolz finished second to Damian Zurek of Poland who skated the race of a lifetime, notching a 34.09 gold-medal finish and a new track record.

Zurek had been dialing in his 500m performance since skating in Hamar when he lost to Stolz by 0.001s in December 2025.

Post race Stolz was quoted in isu-skating.com saying he was not too bothered to come in second behind Zurek.

“The 500m felt good. I’ve been training a lot of volume lately and it didn’t affect my top-end speed too much, although I still think I can improve a little,” Stolz said.

Stolz will skate the 1000m on Saturday. He holds the world record with a time of 1:05.37.  Stolz has finished first in the 1000m in four ISU World Cup races so far this season including Salt Lake City, Calgary, Heerenvee, and Hamar.

Stolz will skate in the ninth pairing against German standout Finn Sonnekalb who has a personal best of 1:06.48.

After Inzell, Stolz will fly to Milan, Italy to prepare for the Winter Olympics which kicks off February 6, 2026 with opening ceremonies.

Stolz first Olympic skate is February 11, when he competes in the 1000m. February 14 is the mens 500m, February 19 is the 1500m, and February 21 is the Mass Start.

January 23, 2026Town of Wayne, Wi – Speedskater Jordan Stolz has one more ISU World Cup competition on tap starting today in Inzell, Germany, before he heads to Milan, Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Stolz skates in two events on Friday, January 23, 2026 including the 500m and the 1500m.
Coach Bob Corby said Stolz has not even come close to hitting his potential.

How much growth potential is there? “A lot,” said Corby who told Stolz, “You don’t have one year of training in your legs. You have six years of training in your legs. So, it doesn’t go away overnight. It just keeps building. So, yeah, I think he has even more potential than he’s showing right now.”

Stolz skates in the 9th pairing vs. Wataru Morishige, 25, of Japan who has a personal best of 33.940.

Stolz, 21, holds the track record in Inzell with a skate of 34.10 however, his personal best this season is 33.69.

The 10th pairing features the favorite from the Netherlands, Jenning De Boo who has a 500m personal best of 33.63.

The 1500m mens race is the last event on the docket for Friday.

Stolz holds the track record in the 1500m at the Max Aicher Arena in Inzell with a time of 1:41,78.  Since setting the track record March 10, 2024, Stolz has notched an even faster 1500m with a time of 1:40,480 in Salt Lake City in November 2025.

Stolz is slated to skate in the ninth pairing vs. Sander Eitrem of Norway. The 23-year-old Eitrem has a personal best of 1:43,230 set in December 2022.

Eitrem finished 5th in the 1500m when he skated at the World Cup in Hamar, Norway and his was 7th when he skated in Heerenveen.
