November 7, 2025 – Slinger, Wi – Slinger High School is announcing the appointment of Carlo Davila as the first-ever head coach for the girls’ wrestling program. This historic decision marks a significant step forward for the school’s athletic department and reflects the growing popularity and recognition of girls’ wrestling in Wisconsin.
Coach Davila brings a wealth of experience and a strong background in wrestling and leadership to Slinger High School. A standout wrestler for the Muskego Warriors in his youth, Davila has spent over a decade leading the Sussex Youth program and coaching the Little Hammers at Ringers. His dedication to the sport is evident through his extensive coaching experience and commitment to mentoring young athletes.
Beyond his wrestling achievements, Davila is a decorated veteran, having served in the Marines. He also has 25 years of experience as a detective for the City of Milwaukee and currently serves as an officer at the Veterans Administration. His background demonstrates his leadership abilities and commitment to service.
Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) held its first girls’ state individual tournament in 2022. The tournament includes 12 weight classes: 100, 107, 114, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 165, 185, and 235 pounds.
The growth in participation statewide has been remarkable: 452 girls in 2021-22, 749 girls in 2022-23, 1,235 girls in 2023-24, and an impressive 1,868 girls in 2024-25.
Slinger athletic director Brian Heimark said the school started a separate girls wrestling program this year because of some changes made by the WIAA. “Girls can’t wrestle boys and still be eligible to wrestle in the state tournament,” he said.
The girls wrestling program, according to Heimark, is in its infancy. There are seven girls on the Owl’s wrestling team. Hartford Union High School also has girls wrestling along with Grafton, Watertown, Cedarburg, Neenah, Homestead, and Nicolet.
“We are thrilled to welcome Carlo Davila to the Slinger Wrestling Family,” said Cody Tonsor, varsity boys head wrestling coach at Slinger High School. “His passion for wrestling, combined with his extensive coaching and leadership experience, makes him the perfect fit to lead our girls’ wrestling program. We are confident he will inspire and empower our female athletes to achieve their full potential.”
Davila’s passion, support, and dedication to the sport of wrestling will be evident to all who have the opportunity to work with him. Slinger High School is excited about the future of the girls’ wrestling program under his guidance.
