December 18, 2025 – Washington Co., Wi – Motorists across Washington County, Wi and those headed to the Milwaukee area may want to pay attention to the weather this afternoon as the National Weather Service Is keeping an eye on the potential for snow squalls and a flash freeze during the late afternoon and early evening commute.

It’s kind of hard to believe with temps nearing the 50’s today that the temperature is going to plummet this afternoon, but it is winter in Wisconsin and according to meteorologist Mark Gehring, “after rain in the morning and early afternoon, a period of brief but intense snowfall and gusty winds to 35 mph is expected along an arctic front during the late afternoon and early evening.
“Snow squall warnings may be needed. The front will cross southern Wisconsin from 4 PM through 8 PM, coincident with the afternoon/evening commute.
“A snow squall can bring sudden white-out conditions caused by heavy snowfall and gusty winds, and with light snow accumulation on roads. Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing behind the front. Any puddles or slush/snow on the roads will quickly turn to ice.”
The potential remains for snow squalls to track across southern Wisconsin during the late afternoon and early evening commute.
