38-year-old charged with alleged knife incident at polling place

November 10, 2022 – West Bend, WI – A 38-year-old West Bend man, Michael Miecielica, who was charged and cited for distributing vulgar fliers in downtown West Bend, WI, has now been charged with two felonies and 10 misdemeanors for allegedly brandishing a knife at the District 2 polling place on Election Day, November 8, 2022.

According to West Bend Police:

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at approximately 12:35 p.m., the City of West Bend Police Department received a call from West Bend Community Memorial Library staff reporting a male subject in the library armed with a knife demanding for staff to “stop the voting.” Police officers responded and took a 38-year-old male into custody without incident. There were no injuries reported.
The library is a polling location for the City of West Bend. Voting was paused for just over 30 minutes while the scene was secured and the initial investigation was conducted. All library staff, election officials, and citizens are safe and the polling site is re-opened. The Police Department would like to thank the library staff for taking quick action and voters who waited patiently to vote.

Below is the criminal complaint. Miecielica was in court today, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022; his appearance was delayed a day. It was recommended he be held on $75,000 cash bond.  $50,000 cash bond was set. A preliminary hearing is set for November 28, 2022 at 08:15 a.m.
