August 7, 2025 – Sheboygan Co., WI – At approximately 7:35 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center received numerous 911 calls reporting multiple vehicles crashing on STHY 23 in the area of Sunset Road in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. UPDATE:
On further investigation it was determined that a 79 year old female from Sheboygan was originally traveling west on STHY23 operating a 2022 Cadillac. Â She made a U-turn at Sunset Rd. in front of a 19 year old male from Sheboygan who was operating a 2019 Toyota east on STHY 23. Â Both of those vehicles became disabled due to damage in the east bound lanes of STHY 23 and caused a chain reaction collision of 5 additional vehicles. Â
A 22-year-old male from Plymouth was ultimately transported to Froedtert Hospital in Waukesha with life threatening injuries. Â A 37-year-old female from Glenbeulah was operating a 2013 Kia and transported to Aurora Sheboygan with serious injuries. Â
Two juvenile passengers in her vehicle were transported with minor injuries to Aurora Sheboygan.The 79-year-old driver will be cited for failure to yield right of way causing injury. Â
In addition to this accident there was a separate 2 vehicle crash west of this scene with no injuries. Â
Another 8 vehicle accident was then reported on STHY 23 east bound, east of Bridgewood Road, also in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. Â Two were transported with minor injuries from that scene to Saint Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan.
STHY 23 east of STHY 57 was reopened at approximately 12:00pm. Â
Fog was the overriding factor in these accidents and the subsequent 2 incidents also involved vehicles slowing down due to the primary accident. Â
This serves as a reminder that lower speeds and turning on your headlights are exceedingly important during inclement weather. Â
All accidents remain under investigation at this time. Â No further information will be released.

Visibility at the time in this area was less than 1/10 mile due to heavy morning fog.
As deputies arrived, they determined there were at least 9 vehicles involved in a crash at STHY 23 east bound at Sunset Road.
As deputies began to close the scene down and redirect traffic another 6-vehicle accident occurred west of the first scene.
Initial investigation indicated that a single vehicle was crossing STHY 23 at Sunset Road in the fog and caused the initial crash. Serious life-threatening injuries were reported at the first crash scene.
The scene is currently an active investigation and will be reconstructed by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
