September 30, 2025 – West Bend, WI – The United Way of Washington County will kick off its fundraising campaign with a packaging event this afternoon in West Bend, WI. On a history note, in 1978 the campaign kickoff actually featured Chester Marcol from the Green Bay Packers. Below is a video of John Rozek telling the story about Marcol’s powerful kick that almost broke windows in West Bend.
In 1978 the Packers finished tied for first place with a record of 8-7-1 under coach Bart Starr.
Aside from kicker Chester Marcol the team featured players like rookie James Lofton, quarterback David Whitehurst, and Terdell Middleton.
The interview with John Rozek was conducted in 2016.
Today’s United Way of Washington County campaign starts at 2 p.m. with a “Packing for a Purpose,” event where more than 400 volunteers are expected to come together to assemble more than 15,000 snack packs for distribution to 25+ local nonprofit partners and schools that serve children and seniors.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $1.9 million. This year, leaders are calling on the community to push even further.
“To raise even one dollar more than last year, it will take all of us,” said Casie Meyers, Co-Chair of the 2025 Campaign. “Every gift — no matter the size — fuels vital programs right here in Washington County. Packing for a Purpose is proof of what we can accomplish when we work side by side.”
United Way of Washington County CEO Kristin Brandner said, “The momentum from today is exactly what we need as we launch the campaign. It’s inspiring to see hundreds of people rolling up their sleeves, giving their time, and investing in a stronger community. We hope that spirit carries through every workplace, every neighborhood, and every donor in Washington County.”
United Way of Washington County invites all community members to take part in the 2025 Campaign by making a gift so every person in the community can reach its full potential. The campaign runs through December 31, 2025. Donations can be made online at www.UnitedWayOfWashingtonCounty.org.
