Andrew Thompson of Village of Jackson, WI receives Eagle Scout rank

Village of Jackson, Wi – Andrew Thompson, 18, of the Village of Jackson recently participated in a court of honor to recognize his new rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting America.

Eagle

Thompson is a member of Troop 835, sponsored by The American Legion Peter Wollner Post 288. First established in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank is achieved by just six percent of all scouts nationwide.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Thompson completed a project benefiting Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where he is an active member.

Thompson designed, constructed and installed two permanent benches made of composite materials to create a durable outdoor seating area for parishioners to use after services and during events at the church’s cultural center.

“The benches foster community engagement, as the congregation now has an outdoor seating area where members can gather and socialize outside on the church grounds,” Thompson said.

Thompson raised more than $1,400 to fund the project.

To earn the Eagle Scout rank, a scout must complete an approved service project, earn at least 21 merit badges, serve in troop leadership positions for a minimum of 16 months, and demonstrate consistent dedication to the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Thompson is a senior at Cedarburg High School, where he tutors math and computer science. He serves as president of the school’s eSports team and is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as the Dungeons & Dragons Club.

He also volunteers at community events including Greek Fest and Taste of Greece.

This fall, Thompson plans to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering to study mechanical engineering, with future plans to pursue a master’s degree in aerospace engineering.
