The incident was reported by both a passerby on the interstate and another subject that heard the crash from a business in the area. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and officers from Germantown Police Department were dispatched to the scene.

Responding law enforcement officers located a sedan with heavy damage stopped in traffic on the off ramp from I-41 southbound to Holy Hill Road.

The second vehicle was a large work van and was located overturned in the gore between the off ramp and the interstate.

The operator and lone occupant of the sedan was out of the vehicle and had suffered only minor injuries. The operator of the overturned vehicle had walked to a local business for assistance. The front passenger of that vehicle had been ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation on scene revealed both vehicles were operating southbound on I-41 at the time of the crash. It appeared the sedan had crossed into the lane occupied by the van and struck the van, causing it to lose control and overturn.

The outside lane of I-41 southbound at Holy Hill Road was closed for over an hour and the off ramp was closed for approximately two-and-a-half hours to facilitate fire and rescue efforts and clean up. Fire and Rescue units responded from Richfield Fire Department and Germantown Fire Department.

No further information is being released at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Speed and impairment are believed to be factors in the crash.
