Doug Gonring steps down from Kewaskum School Board

June 30, 2021 – Kewaskum, WI – The Kewaskum School District has an opening on its School Board as Doug Gonring has stepped down. Gonring notified the board of his decision and said he waited until the end of the school year and after high school graduation.

“When I started I wanted to do something for the community and change the positions on the board,” he said.

Gonring was elected to a 3-year term in April 2019. He has one year left in his term.

In the past two years Gonring felt he accomplished what he set out to do.

“There’s better communication since I first got on the board,” he said. “There’s now a sense of working with people. When I came on there was too much individualism and not enough team play.

“This board is also now moving in the right direction. The students will be rewarded, the staff will be rewarded and the administration will work with the board better. There is more openness going forward.”

In April 2017 Gonring ran as a write-in candidate for the Kewaskum School Board.  The final tally, of the six candidates, showed the write-in received 464 votes and finished last.

There are no scheduled elections in 2021.

The next election is April 2022.

The Kewaskum School Board will determine whether to leave the seat empty until April 2022 or appoint someone to fill the post in the interim.

It was September 2020 when the Kewaskum School Board was in a similar position after Mark Sette quit.

Seven candidates applied to fill the open seat. Ric Leitheiser was selected by the board. Leitheiser was then elected to a 3-year term in the April 2021 election.

The Kewaskum School Board can call a special meeting or discuss the opening at its July 8, 2021 meeting.
