Holy Angels School in West Bend awarded Exemplary Recognition by Archdiocese of Milwaukee | By Michelle Spaeth

West Bend, WI – Holy Angels School has been awarded the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Exemplary Recognition in the category of Whole Student Education.

Staff at Holy Angels School worked tirelessly this year as it was our year for accreditation and we applied for and were awarded Exemplary Recognition for Whole Student Education.

The letter and rubric explain what it is; it’s about educating children beyond just academics. At Holy Angels, we believe we play an important role in helping children grow academically, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Some of the ways we do this at Holy Angels which makes us unique are:

We have a school counselor on staff who teaches weekly lessons, pulls small groups, and is available for individual counseling. She meets weekly with the principal to discuss ways we can best support all our students. She also provides support to staff and families.

We offer numerous clubs and extracurricular opportunities; if students express an interest and we can find a volunteer advisor, we offer it. Some clubs we offer include robotics, crochet club, math olympiads, forensics, chorus, intramural softball, volleyball, and basketball, writing club, book club, fine arts club, yearbook club, student council, and more!

Teachers are trained in differentiation for our diverse learners. We offer enrichment opportunities such as:

-Future Problem Solving. FPS is an educational program that challenges students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills by applying them to hypothetical future scenarios. This year, Holy Angels had 12 fifth graders qualify for and compete in the State Bowl for FPS where they worked in teams to analyze the challenges and develop solution ideas for a situation set in a fictional future and related to the global topic of Nanotechnology.

-Project Lead the Way – Holy Angels Middle School science includes Project Lead the Way, which is a STEM (science, teachnology, engineering, mathematics) curriculum which encourages critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. The program focuses on project based, hands-on, real world learning.

-High School Algebra – is offered to middle school students who qualify.

-Spanish – is taught year-round to students in K3-8th grade.

-Technology Class – K5-5th grade. Students deeply understand technology’s societal impact, show strong awareness of human and cultural issues, consistently apply Catholic teachings, and demonstrate exemplary ethical practices in technology use.

We support students through our Resource Room. Holy Angels uses Title Funds to hire a reading specialist who provides reading intervention aligned with The Science of Reading. Teachers also meet students through differentiated instruction in the classroom.

The Office for Schools will officially present the award to our school community this fall.

Holy Angels Letter
