Authorities identify body found in Lake Winnebago in Fond du Lac County | By Sheriff Ryan F. Waldschmidt

April 25, 2022 – Fond du Lac, WI – Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s detectives are notifying next of kin and continuing their investigation to determine circumstances surrounding the victim’s death after a citizen reported finding a body partially submerged in the water along the shoreline of Lake Winnebago at N7595 Lakeshore Dr. in the town of Friendship.

According to Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt, “We do not believe there is any threat to the public and foul play is not suspected at this time.  The identity of the victim, a 57-year-old Fond du Lac man, will be released after next of kin notification is made and further investigation is conducted.
No further information can be shared at this time, as the case remains open and active.

On Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 4 p.m., a citizen reported finding what he believed to be a body partially submerged in the water along the shoreline of Lake Winnebago at N7595 Lakeshore Drive in the town of Friendship.

Fond du Lac Sheriff submerged

Deputies, detectives and an investigator from the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and confirmed the body was that of an adult male.

Preliminary identification has been made, however until the Medical Examiner confirms the identity of the victim, the name will not be released.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning, and a deputy will remain at the scene where the victim was found pending the outcome of the autopsy.  No further information can be shared at this time, as the case remains open and active.
