Internet crimes against children arrest | By Lt. Tim Kemps

Slinger, Wi – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Division arrested a 27-year-old Town of Trenton man Thursday morning at Slinger High School in connection with an ongoing Internet Crimes Against Children investigation.

The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip of unlawful images being uploaded in the Village of Grafton. The possible suspect was identified as a Town of Trenton man and Washington County Sheriff’s Office detectives began a formal investigation.

Investigators had obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence which was going to be executed early Thursday morning. Before serving the warrant, we learned the suspect had left the residence and was in the Slinger area.

His vehicle was located at Slinger High School a short time later by a deputy. Detectives immediately communicated with school authorities and the Slinger Police Department and learned that he was working as a janitor through a contracted cleaning service at the school.

Investigators were also able to monitor the suspect on school surveillance cameras from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center while detectives responded and took him into custody without incident.

The suspect had been working as a janitor in the school for the past eight weeks. However, today was the first day that he was assigned to work the day shift. Before that, he was working after school hours.

At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that there are any local victims nor any evidence to suggest that local students were a target.

We are still early on in this investigation and will remain transparent with the community if any further evidence is uncovered.

The suspect has been turned over to the Grafton Police Department which is forwarding charges of possession of child sexual abuse material to the Ozaukee County District Attorney’s Office since the offenses uncovered thus far occurred in that jurisdiction. Washington County investigators will continue to conduct an exhaustive search of his electronic devices and other evidence to help determine if any crimes occurred within Washington County. If so, the appropriate charges will be forwarded to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Slinger School District, Wisconsin Department of Justice Digital Forensic Unit, and Department of Criminal Investigations, as well as the Grafton, Slinger, and Waukesha Police Departments. These valuable partnerships are critical to ensuring successful outcomes.

Curler’s notice to parents is below.

Dear Slinger Families,

We want to inform you of a situation involving an employee of TASC, a contracted cleaning company that provides custodial services for the Slinger School District.

Earlier today, a Town of Trenton resident employed by TASC was taken into custody by law enforcement for alleged internet crimes against children. This individual worked the 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. custodial shift at Slinger High School and had been employed by TASC from April 14 until today. Prior to beginning work, this individual passed all required background checks and had no known criminal record.

At this time, we have received no information indicating that there are any local victims nor any evidence to suggest that local students were a target. However, we are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.

We understand that this news may be unsettling. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates if new information emerges that affects our school community.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Sincerely,

Jim Curler
Superintendent
Slinger School District
