West Bend, WI – The Kettle Moraine Youth Aviation’s (KMYA) showed off its West Bend build site to the West Bend Kiwanis Club this month. KMYA is a youth organization that works with area high school students who are assembling a Vans RV-12iS airplane from a kit. The organization promotes STEM principles and leadership, and the students work with experienced mentors learning how to properly use various hand tools and read detailed plans of construction.

During the tour, the Kiwanis learned about KMYA organization’s inception, session activities, and all that goes into building an airplane.
Several participating students attended this outing and showed off their talents demonstrating some assembly procedures including riveting, prepping parts, installing Clecos, match drilling holes, and documenting their activities.
In addition to learning about the KMYA group, the Kiwanis also learned about how the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) supports youth aviation in other ways, such as hosting an annual Air Camp showcasing relative careers, giving airplane rides, and teaching general principles of aviation through demonstrations and projects.
The Kettle Moraine Youth Aviation group meets at the West Bend Airport Sunday from 5:00-8:00pm, and Monday from 6:00-8:00pm, and utilize space within the EAA Chapter 1158’s hangar. More information about all organizations can be found at the following websites:
