May 22, 2026 – Town of Trenton, Wi – After more than two decades of turning pages and flashing smiles, Doris Feider-Schlenvogt is ready to retire from her position as Ozaukee Christian School librarian.

She says she has loved every minute of it, but needs more time for other things during this chapter of her life.
When Doris first found OCS, she noted the library was not very functional. She had just been through a challenging time of teaching English to her son, whom she and husband Gary adopted from Romania when he was almost five.
“I would read and read and read to him,” Doris recalled, remembering her determination to teach her son the vocabulary he would need for school.
When she eventually enrolled her son and daughter at OCS, the library jumped out as something she could help with.

Back then, OCS was at its Saukville location, and the library was just two bookcases in the hallway. Doris organized these using the Dewey Decimal System and added more books and more shelves to the collection. The hallway was lined with books, and students lined up down the hallway to sign each book’s paper card to check them out. Doris used to bring the cards home and alphabetize them on her kitchen counter.
Now the OCS library boasts 8,272 books, with about 275 of those getting checked out each library day, using the library’s own computer software. Doris made sure that none of these books ever made a dent in the school’s budget. Every single one was donated or purchased using a grant.
“God has made provisions for us,” said Doris, “that we can have really good solid Christian books for these kids at all grade levels and ages.”

Doris created library traditions, such as themed book days designed to get students to choose books outside of their usual scope of interest. Themes like “Paws, Claws, Fur and Feathers” and “Books Starting with B” helped Doris put countless new books in front of eager readers.
Doris worked with teachers to select books that would expand upon what the students were learning in class, from geography to the Civil War.
Friends of OCS will continue to see Doris’s work in action, as she intends to continue writing grants for the school and serving as a board member emerita. And of course, she will keep reading!
“It’s easier for me to read a book than to watch TV,” said Doris.
Starting on May 28, Doris is seeking volunteers to help pack up and move the library to the school’s new location.
We are seeking two new librarians to join us at FaithRidge. Doris said she is willing to help train new librarians and library helpers.
Anyone interested in volunteering in the move or applying to be a librarian should call the school office or contact Chris Bergstresser at [email protected].
