Germantown School District interviewing for new principal at MacArthur Elementary

August 28, 2025 – Germantown, WI – The Germantown School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. tonight, August 28, 2025, to interview and potentially hire a permanent principal for MacArthur Elementary School.

This week families with students at MacArthur Elementary received a letter from superintendent Dr. Chris Reuter regarding the resignation of principal Tony Gonzalez.

It was August 13, 2025, when the district first notified families that Gonzalez had been placed on a “leave of absence and would not be returning as principal of MacArthur Elementary.”

According to school board president Russell Ewert the district received 40 applications.

Ewert said four candidates were brought in for full interviews.

The interview panels were made up of district administrators, principals, MacArthur building staff, and parents of students who attend the school.

He said, if the board approves the hire tonight, another statement will be issued to staff and families.

This is a working story, and more information will be published when details are available.

According to Germantown superintendent Dr. Chris Reuter parents were notified August 8, 2025.

Reuter confirmed Gonzalez is still an employee with the district. “We’re working through the personnel process and the release said he will not be back at MacArthur as of this time.”

Reuter said the leave of absence for Gonzalez has been in place “about a week and a half.”

As far as a new principal, Reuter said “We currently have, a district employee in place for the interim through the month of August; we are working to secure a long-term solution as a full-time principal.”

Reuter confirmed he has received calls from parents regarding the situation.

“Myself and the school board have received emails from parents regarding their opinion on the matter. We understand changing a principal or removing a principal at this time of year can be upsetting to parents, but as the message states, we’re doing what’s in the best interest of the entire school district,” Reuter said.

The first day of class in the Germantown School District is September 2, 2025.
