Upon arrival of the first Deputy approximately 2 minutes later, he located a male subject down on the ground next to the overturned car. The male was bleeding from the head and being attended to by a good Samaritan who stopped to assist.

The other vehicle involved was a box truck and the driver was complaining of head, neck and low back pain. When other Deputies arrived all northbound traffic on Highway 45 was shut down to assist with patient care and the response of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.

The initial investigation determined that a male 45-year-old City of West Bend resident was westbound on Park Avenue. The vehicle went off road right, drove through the fence at the top of the overpass and the vehicle became airborne.

The vehicle then struck the box truck which was merging northbound onto Highway 45 from Highway 33/Washington St in West Bend. The 45-year-old male was transported via ambulance to Froedtert West Bend and succumbed to his injuries.

The other driver, a 59-year-old man from Theresa, was transported via ambulance to Froedtert Milwaukee with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Northbound traffic was closed until 10:55 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit and no further information is being released at this time
