On Sept. 7, 2016 at approximately 8:11 p.m. the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house fire at 2518 Bonnie Lane in the Town of Polk.

The fire was reported by the homeowner who was at home at the time and noticed smoke coming from the basement of the residence. He went to investigate and found the basement filled with smoke as well as observed flames coming from the area of a dehumidifier.

The homeowner was able to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher. Upon deputies arrival the homeowner was evacuating the residence due to the heavy smoke.

The Slinger Fire Department responded and was assisted by Hartford, Jackson, Richfield as well as Lifestar Rescue. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Slinger Fire Department however the origin of the fire appears to be in the area where the dehumidifier was located.
