Names released in fatal crash with dump truck in Fond du Lac County, WI | By Sgt. Brandon Henning

May 28, 2025 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – On Tuesday May 27, 2025 at approximately 2:10 p.m. the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received multiple 911 calls of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Highway B and County Highway K, Town of Eden, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office along with the Eden Fire Department and the Campbellsport Ambulance responded to the scene.  
Preliminary investigation revealed a SUV was traveling eastbound on County Highway B and attempted to make a left turn to go northbound on County Highway K. The operator of the SUV failed to yield to a westbound dump truck.
The dump truck struck the SUV. The SUV came to rest in the north ditch with the driver still in the vehicle. The dump truck left the road and came to rest in the south ditch. Prior to the dump truck entering the ditch it had struck an eastbound cement truck.
The driver of the SUV was pulseless and not breathing when emergency personnel arrived. Despite life-saving efforts the driver succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the SUV was identified as a 79-year-old male from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Driver of SUV: Thomas G. Hechimovich, Age 79, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (Deceased)
Driver of Dump Truck: Larry M. Potratz, Age 67, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
Driver of Cement Truck: Kirk B. Thew, Age 61, Van Dyne, Wisconsin
The driver of the dump truck was operated by a 67 year old male from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The dump truck driver was evaluated by EMS at the scene for minor injuries. The driver is cooperating with the investigation.
The driver of the cement truck was identified as a 61-year-old male from Van Dyne, Wisconsin. He was uninjured and released from the scene.
The crash is still under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team. The names of the parties involved are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, Eden Fire Department, Campbellsport Ambulance, City of Fond du Lac Ambulance, Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department. County Highway B was closed for approximately 4 hours.
