Obit: George A. Kohler, 86, West Bend

George A. Kohler, 86, of West Bend, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016, at The Cottages in West Bend.

George was born on November 16, 1929, in Racine, the son of the late Raymond and Emily (Schmidt) Kohler. On October 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marge Popelka in Elkhart Lake. Marge preceded George in death on January 12, 2003.

George was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg and was a Moose Lodge member in West Bend for more than 25 years. George enjoyed working at the Wisconsin Electric Company for over 30 years. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, and traveling to Arizona during the winter months with his trusty companion cat, Dickens. George had a passion for riding horses and won ribbons for barrel racing.

Those George leaves behind to cherish his memory include five children, Kris Moore of Charleston, South Carolina, Tim Kohler of Fond du Lac, David (Beth) Kohler of West Bend, Karen (Ken) Liepert of Kewaskum and Mark Kohler of Watertown; five grandchildren, Jenny Mickelson, Amy Mickelson, John Kohler (Erin Malone), Evan Kyle Guthrie, and Michael Kohler; four great grandchildren, Trinity Jank, Chloe Jank, Myles Mickelson and Jack Mickelson; a brother, Roman (Susan) Kohler of Denver, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Susie Kohler; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by, a brother, Bernard Kohler.

A funeral service for George will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. Rev. Kevin Kowalske will officiate and burial will take place on Thursday at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Newburg.

George’s family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at The Cottages for the care provided to George.

The Myrhum Patten Miller and Kietzer Funeral Homes have been entrusted with George’s arrangements.
