Obituary | Irene H. Fechter, nee Tennies, 88, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of Newburg

August 11, 2025Newburg, Wi – Irene H. Fechter, nee Tennies, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of Newburg, died on Saturday, August 2, 2025 in Florida at the age of 88 years. She was born October 19, 1936 in West Bend to the late Ben and Viola (nee Hentz) Tennies.

She attended Holy Angels grade school and went on to graduate with the Class of 1954 from West Bend High School.

 

On May 7, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ralph M. Fechter at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Ralph predeceased July 7, 2001.

 

While her children were growing up, she worked part time at the Washington County Courthouse. She later worked in the x-ray department at St. Joseph’s Hospital, until retiring in the late 1990’s.

 

Irene led a very active life. Some of her many hobbies and pastimes included traveling, bingo, visiting casinos, watching sporting events, genealogy, playing cards, especially sheepshead and euchre, volunteering at the Washington County Historical Society and German Fest, to name a few.

 

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg and the Loyal Order Of Moose Lodge #1398 in West Bend.

 

Survivors include 3 children: Gary of Newburg, Cindy (Ralph) Clarke of Spring Hill, FL and Joe (Cindy) of West Bend; 1 son-in-law Scott (Ann) Eickstedt of West Bend; 5 grandchildren: Erika (Troy) Werlein, Bryan Fechter, Megan (Jake) Filo, Travis Eickstedt and Matthew Eickstedt; 4 great-grandchildren: Logan and Peyton Werlein, Noah Fechter and Caleb Filo; 1 brother Herbert (Sue) Tennies of West Bend; 5 sisters-in-law Sally Tennies of West Bend, Clara Neu of West Bend, Dorothy Griesmer of Hartford, Martha Fechter of West Bend and Mary Jane Fechter of Random Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Eickstedt, a granddaughter Stephanie Eickstedt and a brother Albert “Tiger” Tennies.

Schmidt Funeral Home

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14 from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Newburg Fire Department appreciated.
