Showing pigs for Wayne Crusaders 4-H | By Ava Filber

Town of Wayne, WI – My name is Ava Filber. I am 17 years old and attend Lomira High School. I will be showing swine at the fair as a member of the Wayne Crusaders 4-H.

There’s a lot of preparation that goes on behind the scenes.

Some of the tasks involved in showing a pig include cleaning, feeding, bathing, clipping, walking, and most importantly, building a strong connection with your project.

I show home-bred and raised pigs, which means they are born and raised on the same farm. In my opinion, this gives me a deeper connection to my pigs than most others may have.

Additionally, having a solid support system and the right knowledge will help you go far— the more you know, the more your project will succeed in the arena.

Overall, showing livestock is a privilege that many may not fully appreciate, but it’s a great way to build leadership skills and foster teamwork, helping everyone succeed together.
