Semi driver buried by bales of paper in crash | By Sgt. Brandon Henning

July 23, 2025 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – On Wednesday July 23, 2025, at approximately 1:41 a.m. the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a semi-tractor and trailer that had went into a ditch near US Highway 151 northbound and the ramp to S. Main Street in the Town of Fond du Lac.

 

The caller stated they were unable to check the status of occupants due to the extent of the semi-tractor’s damage.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office along with Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to the scene.
A Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and there were two good Samaritans attempting to help the driver. The driver was buried under large bales of paper that came through the front of the trailer after impact.
The Sergeant and Deputies assisted the good Samaritans in moving the large bales of paper in attempt to rescue the driver.
The driver was later identified as a 60-year-old male from New Holstein, Wisconsin. The driver was transported via ambulance to St. Agnes Hospital then subsequently flown via Theda Star helicopter to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Neenah for serious injuries.
Initial investigation shows a northbound semi was attempting to exit from USH 151 to S. Main Street.
The driver failed to slow down in time to safely make the turn onto the off ramp. The driver continued northbound into the ditch causing the load of large bales of paper to slide through the front of the trailer causing significant damage to the cab of the semi.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department, and Wisconsin State Patrol.
The crash is still under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. No further information is being released at this time.
