Primary election likely in City of West Bend

January 4, 2021 – West Bend, WI – There will likely be a primary election in the City of West Bend in February as three candidates are expected to faceoff in District 2.

Paperwork for the third candidate is expected to be filed Tuesday, January 5 before the 5 p.m. deadline.

There are contested races so far in two of the four districts (District 2 and 4) with papers pulled but no signatures turned in for Districts 6 and 8.

Incumbents are running in all districts except District 6 which is an open seat following the death of alderman Steve Hoogester.

Aldermen started circulating papers December 1, 2020; between 20 – 40 signatures must be submitted by January 5, 2021 to be on the April 2021 ballot.

If three candidates file in one district there would be a primary election February 16, 2021.

Side note on other April 2021 races:

  • Kevin Scheunemann has filed papers to run again as Village President in Kewaskum
  • Ric Leitheiser and Jim Leister have filed papers to run in for the Kewaskum School Board
  • Heather Rodriguez has filed papers to run for both HUHS school board and Hartford Joint 1 School Board.
  • In the City of Hartford papers have been filed by Doug Carroll, Alderperson, 2nd District and Joe Kohler, Alderperson, 1st District.  Tony Garza, Alderperson, 3rd District is also running but at last check in December 30, 2020 he had yet to turn in paperwork.
  • Click HERE for candidates in the 13th Senate District to replace Scott Fitzgerald who is being sworn in as the Congressman in the Fifth District to replace Congressman James F. Sensenbrenner who is retiring.
  • West Bend School District incumbents Chris Zwygart and Kurt Rebholz have filed to run again. Jody Geenen has also completed paperwork. The draw for ballot order is slated for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4.
