March 30, 2022 – Washington County, WI – On Monday afternoon, March 29, 2022, the Slinger Police Department (SPD) responded to a forced entry daytime burglary. Just prior to the SPD receiving this call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office also responded to a similar burglary a few miles from our incident. The SPD also is investigating another daytime burglary that occurred in early March.
These daytime burglaries have involved larger homes and lots with exposed lower levels. Entry has been made by prying a window or door that leads to the lower level of the residence. The thieves have targeted cash and jewelry.
Large lots mean your neighbors are farther away and less likely to see anything suspicious. Your neighbors are (more than likely) working during the day, which is what the thieves are counting on, leaving your home vulnerable.
Daytime burglaries usually involve the suspect coming to the front door to determine if someone is home. If there is, they will have a story ready for being there. For some, their intent is to get inside the residence and distract the owner while a second suspect steals valuables. Usually, in these circumstances, the suspects pose as utility or cable company workers. They will wear utility vests and have a truck or van nearby. For other thieves, if someone is home, they will use their story and leave as their intent is to break in once they determine no one is home.

In all three of these incidents, the homes did not have a security system or cameras. The SPD is encouraging homeowners to take steps to protect their property and homes by investing in security measures.
Doorbell cameras, battery-operated wireless cameras that run off of a home’s WIFI are one option. These types of cameras send an alert to your cell phone and do not require a monthly fee to a monitoring company. You are then responsible for contacting law enforcement should you receive an alert that needs investigation. A home monitoring company such as ADT or SimpliSafe is another good option that will alert law enforcement in the event of an intruder.
