Slinger H.S. seniors celebrate Superkids with Slinger Elementary students | By Tavia Williams

June 2, 2026Slinger, Wi – Slinger High School seniors in the AP Literature class dressed up as Superkids in full costumes to participate in an interdisciplinary activity with Slinger Elementary kindergarten students.

While it is common for high school seniors to walk through their elementary schools before graduation as a final celebration of their time in the K-12 system, for Slinger’s AP Literature class, it was an opportunity for an impactful full-circle moment.

The Superkids Reading Program is used to teach K-5 students how to read through use of familiar characters, books, and songs.

Each senior picked a Superkids character to impersonate, leamed about the mannerisms, picked out costumes, and got ready to meet the kindergarteners.

Seniors waved out the bus windows as they rolled up to school, did their introduction dance, gave high fives, and handed out ‘Superkid’s Club’ stickers. “Every moment was pure excitement,” senior Paige Boden said.

“The kindergarteners were thrilled they got to meet us, and while we were excited too, that excitement was twinged with nostalgia.”

Most people remember being five years old and getting excited about a ‘special visitor’ on a school bus.

Twelve years ago, seniors were looking at the 2026 at the beginning of their school email address thinking that date would never come.

The full-circle experience with the K-5 students goes beyond the fun of the costumes and high-fives. It allowed seniors to reflect on their K-12 experience and gave them the chance to play dress-up and be a kid one more time.
