REAL ESTATE | Uprooted tree at demolition of St. Lucas Church in Kewaskum, Wi

June 16  2026 – Kewaskum, Wi – In the department of “What the heck?” The demolition of the 1913 St. Lucas Ev. Lutheran Church now features an uprooted tree on the second floor of the building.

Tucked into the second-story corner on the north side of the building is a leafy green tree. Roots and all. Some have guessed a Christmas tree.

Contractors on a lift are currently removing asbestos shingles from the south tower as demolition is nearing completion.

What say you?

June 12, 2026 – Kewaskum, Wi – Under overcast skies, contractors removed the bell from the north tower of St. Lucas Ev. Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. A clunky yet

delicate process. The bell was then placed in the shadow of the tower in the back of the lot.

According to parish trustee Kevin Scheunemann, “St.Lucas member Henry Schacht is cleaning it up and storing for future use.”

St. Lucas bell sits in the foreground as the church, which dates to 1913, is demolished.

To the right side of the bell near the yoke is a metal wheel. Click HERE to read more about the makeup of a church bell.

May 30, 2026Kewaskum, Wi – St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1420 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum, Wi, is being razed. The demolition of the church has been underway the past few months as church pews were removed, along with stained glass and hardwood trim that dates to 1913.

Over the past two days crews have pulled down the north side of the red-brick building. Now open to the elements the interior of the church looks like it was hit by a bomb.  The beam along the roofline has been exposed. Insulation blows in the wind like streamers from the ceiling. Religious paintings that border the altar are visible from the parking lot.

There’s been a consensus from the community on social media regarding the loss of history and sadness.

The red brick church was built for over $10,550. The church featured two towers, an arched entryway, and held a capacity of 300 to 400 parishioners.
